My U.S. Marine

My U.S. Marine

You left to serve our country,
To hold up your head with pride.
Never did I dream you'd fight,
Hand to gun, platoons side by side.
You've been gone now for forever, it seems;
Written of all that you've seen.
When will you be home again?
My faithful U.S. Marine.

You shipped off with your cries of "Oo-rah!"
And your courage spilling out.
My tears left my eyes that fateful day,
My heart continues to shout.
Everyday, I wait for your letters,
Words of your well-being.
Until they cease their arrival,
I'll wait for my U.S. Marine.

"Always Faithful" is your motto:
A Marine until the day that you die.
These words could not be more true,
My ears ring with the words "semper fi".
Here at home I try to continue,
To keep my mind off of these things,
But how can I think about anything else,
Than my United States Marine?

I'll be here when it's over,
Just like I've been here from the start.
My mind thinks only of you,
You're in my dreams from the heart.
I see you fighting for America,
Skills harnessed, you're a killing machine.
I know you'll make it home soon;
You're a United States Marine.

Your devotion makes me proud and
Your honor's not a show.
Dedication to your corps and country,
"First to go and last to know."
Never having second thoughts,
Or making a big scene.
I tell everyone I meet
Of my United States Marine.

This poem is for my special Marine, who shipped out for
Afghanistan. My heart and prayers are with him always ...
