Separation Until Reunion

Separation Until Reunion

Every time you leave
Votive candles burn in my heart
I try to keep them safe from the breezes of forgetfulness
I try to keep demon fingers of doubt from pinching them out
One by one by one
I'm afraid of a tidal wave of despondency of which there is no defense
I want them to inflame me forever
I'm so afraid that they are too delicate
And my hands shake too much
And my anger could let the wrong words snuff them to nothingness
So please do not despair if I talk of hate as much as love to you, my sailor
Both are stronger than indifference, which I reserve for everyone else.
