Gone Again

Gone Again

Gone again, nothing new
The Navy says only a week or two
A month goes by and then a year
I can't remember when you were last here
A moment with strength I live each day
Only at night do I cry when I pray
I never imagined a life such as this
With a man I can't hold or even kiss
A reflection I had when we were young
Innocently believing we would live as one
You choose this life with great pride and
In front of God I took your side
It's hard to believe it's been seven years
Through welcoming happiness and deployment tears
Our girls are your gift, my company
When your days and nights belong to the sea
I dream of the years when we are old and gray
When the Navy can't take you away
We can live the life we talked about
When we were just starting out
Tonight I will close my eyes and dream of the day
When you can tell me you are home to stay
